Day-by-Day Itinerary

Welcome to the Pearl of the Indian Ocean

Touch down at Bandaranaike International Airport, where your Sri Lankan journey begins. Transfer to your Colombo hotel and settle in before the city reveals itself. As dusk falls, wander Galle Face Green, the capital’s iconic oceanfront promenade, where kite flyers and vendors create a lively atmosphere. Sample sizzling street food from local carts before retiring for the night.

Into the Hill Capital

Depart Colombo for Kandy, a scenic 3.5–4hour drive through changing landscapes into the island’s cultural heartland. Visit the revered Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic, one of Buddhism’s most sacred sites, then enjoy an unhurried stroll around tranquil Kandy Lake. Evenings come alive with an optional traditional dance performance before overnighting at a charming boutique hill-country hotel.

Through Tea Country

Wind through emerald tea country toward Nuwara Eliya, Sri Lanka’s “Little England,” a 2.5–3-hour drive framed by rolling plantations. Stop at a working tea factory to witness the journey from leaf to cup, complete with tasting. Afternoon brings a peaceful escape to Gregory Lake, perfect for a lakeside stroll or gentle boat ride, before settling in overnight.

The Legendary Ella Train

Board the Nanu Oya train for one of the world’s most celebrated rail journeys, a 2.5–3-hour glide through misty tea estates, tunnels, cascading waterfalls and dramatic mountain vistas en route to Ella. Once arrived, visit the Nine Arch Bridge and refreshing Ravana Falls, two of the region’s most photographed landmarks, before an overnight stay in this laid-back hill town.

Coastal Charms and Colonial Heritage

Journey south via the coastal expressway toward Bentota, roughly 5–6 hours with scenic stops along the way. Break at historic Galle Fort, a UNESCO World Heritage site, to wander its ramparts, iconic lighthouse and boutique-lined cobblestone streets steeped in colonial charm. Continue onward as evening approaches, arriving in beachside Bentota for an overnight stay.

Farewell to Sri Lanka

Ease into your final morning with leisure time, or opt for a Madu River boat safari through mangrove-fringed waterways, or a visit to a turtle hatchery. Travel to Colombo (2–2.5 hrs) for last-minute shopping at One Galle Face Mall, vibrant local markets and tea boutiques. Transfer to Bandaranaike International Airport for your departure flight home.
