This tour explores one or both of Sri Lanka’s great ancient capitals, cycling or driving between towering stupas, monastic ruins and centuries-old reservoirs. Anuradhapura offers a deeply spiritual atmosphere centred on the sacred Sri Maha Bodhi tree, while Polonnaruwa’s compact, cyclable ruins include some of the island’s finest stone carvings. A knowledgeable guide brings context to each site’s history and significance. Activity level is light to moderate depending on whether cycling is included, and the tour is best started from Sigiriya, Dambulla or Habarana.
